JSP is committed to creating a healthier environment by reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices. We aim to achieve this by:
- Energy: Implementing energy-efficient systems and reducing overall consumption.
- Commuting: Encouraging staff and patients to use eco-friendly transport options.
- Recycling: Enhancing recycling programmes to minimise waste.
- Prescribing: Promoting environmentally friendly prescribing practices.
Through these actions, we strive to lead by example in fostering a greener, more sustainable community.
Reducing our energy consumption
- We are sticking to temperature targets in our spaces at the practice

-
- Each room at JSP has a recycling bin we are committed to reducing the amount of non-recyclable waste we produce
-
Compost bins – our gardening club have set up a compost bin in our community garden, with the amount of tea we all drink I think we’ll produce some excellent quality mulch for our plants

We adhere to the 'Simpler recycling' policy as set by the government
-
Paperless prescribing – have stopped paper prescriptions and the practice operates a low paper approach to all of our processes this includes T-quest forms.
-

-
We stock our rooms carefully to reduce waste of medical equipment
-
Our practice cook Hamida organises 'meat free' days
Prescribing
-
Some medication we prescribe unfortunately contribute to a warming climate, where there is an alternative, we are trying to switch patients to medications which are better for the environment. We might chat to you about this during your annual review
-
We participate in inhaler recycling schemes with our local pharmacy who can dispose of your inhalers (including most spacer devices) in an environmentally conscientious manor
Things you can do to help
- Think about how you get to your appointments, one of the most common reason for people missing appointment at JSP is not being able to park, we are close to our community and we challenge those of you able, to walk to your appointments. This reduces congestion, improve air quality and has benefits on your physical and mental health.
- A call out to our asthmatic patents – your inhaler choice can have an environmental impact, please, at your next asthma review have a chat with our team about if a DPI (dry powder inhaler) would be suitable for you. For more information have a look at this leaflet. Please always dispose of you inhaler canasters at the pharmacy. Please remember plastic spacer devices should go into your recycling bins.
- Use the NHS App to request and track your paperless prescriptions
- Nominate your chosen pharmacy so we can send your prescriptions electronically
